William Paul Koppe
A little about my father. He was a complex man, stubborn yet firm. I think he was conditioned this way because he was in the Army. We lived in Georgia near the Army base when I was very young. I have memories of him taking me to the Army base and seeing all the other soldiers. I have very few memories during this period of my life. Although he wasn’t much in my life during my childhood, my sister and I still saw him every other weekend. You see, my parents got divorced when my sister and I were young. Fast forward to our teen hood, my parents remarried each other, and we now saw my dad every day. I’d like to say everything was going well but he wasn’t the best at being a dad. We bumped heads a lot, but I think this is a typical situation. One positive thing I say is whatever I was into, my dad supported me. I was interested in film, and he went out of his way to purchase me a video camera and computer so I could make short movies. He was a Cook County Police officer, so money was always tight. Yet he still found a way to support me in my dreams.
